Analyzing Chinese Information Operations with Cyber Threat Intelligence (by Che Chang / Team T5)

Abstract:

This presentation will share the trends of Chinese Information Operations (InfoOps), which TeamT5 has observed in the past years. Chinese InfoOps on social media platforms have received unprecedented attention across the globe. Our team has been investigating Chinese InfoOps since 2016. In major events such as the Hong Kong protest, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the U.S. presidential elections, the Chinese threat actors have weaponized social media to shape narratives and manipulate online users. By adopting the mindset of threat intelligence, we have managed to illustrate the Chinese InfoOps threat landscape as well as identify threat actors emerging across social media.

Che Chang is a Cyber Threat Analyst at TeamT5 Cyber Threat Intelligence Team and the co-author of TeamT5’s Information Operation White Papers. He focuses on underground market research and state-sponsored Information Operations (InfoOps). He is also the speaker of SANS Cyber Threat Intelligence Summit 2021, CODE BLUE 2020, 2020 April vGCTF disinfo workshop, 2019 Cybersec in Taiwan, etc

Volunteering During Crisis (by Ohad Zaidenberg / CTI League)

Abstract:

The presentation will share the genesis story of the CTI League, the first open cert with the mission of protecting the medical sector and creating safer cyberspace for them. For the first time, the infosec community built a CERT that is not attributed to any country, and all derived by the people who volunteer in the community. Ohad will share some insights about the threat landscape, about the key role of APTs and nation-state-sponsored threat actors in stealing information regarding COVID-19.

Ohad Zaidenberg is the founder and the executive of the CTI League, the first non-profit community that aspires to protect the medical sector against cyber attacks. Zaidenberg founded the organization after identifying an increase in cyber attacks that took advantage of the COVID-19 crisis.
